SANBORN STANDS AGAINST FISA REATHORIZATION
Will prioritize privacy and restraint while balancing safety

BEDFORD, NH – Following the news that Congress passed the re-authorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), State Senator Andy Sanborn issued the following statement outlining his position on the subject:

“As a Congressman, I will always put out nation’s safety at the top of my priority list but that does not mean we should be trading our much-guarded liberties that are enshrined in the Constitution. While I believe that FISA is well intentioned, it is deeply flawed and does not offer much in the way of oversight and due process for American Citizens that might be inadvertently surveilled upon. It is because of this that I would have opposed the re-authorization today, in its current form. The Federal Government and Congress need to ensure real safeguards are in place that protect American Citizen’s Fourth Amendment rights and I am wary of creating any government apparatus that is collecting and processing terabytes of data on daily basis with very little oversight.”
